No desenvolvimento desse estudo, foram analisados os métodos e as bases de dados utilizadas em estudos anteriores, incorporando os procedimentos considerados relevantes e propondo novos avanços consequentes da disponibilidade de novas bases de dados e de avanços tecnológicos para o processamento de informações. O Manual de Usos Consuntivos da Água detalha os caminhos percorridos para elaboração das estimativas. Os setores avaliados foram o abastecimento humano (urbano e rural), o abastecimento animal, a indústria de transformação, a mineração, a termoeletricidade e a agricultura irrigada. As estimativas foram realizadas até 2021 (diagnóstico), além de projeções até 2040 (prognóstico).</idAbs>
